I've found that when I take my boys to one of those indoor playgrounds, they will totally watch each other's back. Especially Ethan, looking after Tyler. There are often big (rough, loud, aggressive) kids there too, who can be intimidating to my boys, but as brothers they will always band together - it definitely must be that common enemy thing! Hmm, perhaps I need to be the bad guy more often, so they'll play nice!? Yes! You are so right about this.
