Parisian Parade

It’s not Paris, France, but culture abounds.
We spend every July 4th holiday at Bear Lake. We love it. There’s water fun, biking, camping and of course, the most perfect small town parade you could ever want in Paris, Idaho.
There are all kinds of charming scenes like this next one, to snap pictures of. Farms, old buildings, and orange poppies everywhere.

We come early to have our traditional lunch at the Paris Cafe. (That sounds more romantic than it is.)

I always drag the family into the little antique store near the cafe. I love treasure hunting in antique stores, but my male-ridden family usually go unwillingly and ask every two seconds if “we’re done yet”.

The parade starts around 1pm, and it never disappoints.
Floats are usually modest affairs with handmade touches.
I love them.
First up we have the towns’ oldest citizen.

Some plastic barrels linked together, then dragged behind a truck. Oh, my kids would love to ride in that rig.

A truckload of beauticians advertising their business. Note the spelling on the handmade sign.

Dancing pioneers…

Horsedrawn carriages…

Remnants from the horses…

Cheerleaders dancing through the remnants…(the show must go on!)

This may be the saddest parade display I’ve ever seen. Poor little pony.

The only thing this town’s parade is missing are some contenders for the beauty pageant. This is just sub-par.

Maybe it’s wishful thinking but I think the sign actually says Perms but the e just looks like a u. Cause if you look at the e in beauty it’s curly like that. Anyway….glad you guys enjoyed your 4th. Looks like lots of fun!
Love the post. I used to be in that little parade every year as a child. We have a cabin in St Charles, love that little town. Next time go up Paris canyon to the ice cave, kind of a fun kitschy thing to do.
Love your post, as always.
That looked stinkin’ awesome! lol!!
I am so jealous of all the little things you got to see in that antique shop! I’ve asked Jonathan to take me soon to a big weekend flea market. We’re getting ready build a house and I want it to look old and whimsical, not brand spankin’ new. Loved the photos!! As always.
That is nice and small, just like the parade in Petersburg, Alaska…minus the rain!
I’ve decided that small towns are the BEST place to spend the 4th of July. The horse poop was funny! Seeing the girls walking through it was even better :0 thanks for the smile today.
