I woke up today to find it was raining. The artist formerly known as Kelly would have hated to wake up to find that it was raining. Something about the color of wet sidewalks used to cause mild depression.
Since that time, I have discovered the joy of gardening, and rain=happy plants. So, I celebrated with my leafy companions and opened the windows to bring the delicious smell into my home.
Another reason rain is no longer depressing is that it gives me a chance to wear my most favorite red trench coat. Since purchasing it, I have worn it everytime it rains or threatens to. Once, I even took it to Las Vegas to a photog convention in October. I was in a coldish mindset due to the coldish weather at home, but it was hot in Sin City. Nevertheless, I was determined to wear my red trench because it was a crucial part of this one particularly fabulous outfit. It couldn’t be that hot. Except that it was. Once I stepped out into the street, I was committed to the jacket for the rest of our outing…not due to my stubborn streak, but because I had developed a certain wetness in the underarm area.
I refused to be the girl with pits.
Anyway…
Today I was in exeedingly high spirits, despite the rain, or maybe, partially because of it.
I also had a song in my head that wouldn’t let go of me. I finally gave in and listened to it at least 10 times.
It was the soundtrack to my better than average day. A little heavy guitar never hurt anyone.

I want to see this fabulous coat also. I can just see you and Beck head bangin’ to this song around the house. Maybe even playin’ a little air guitar?

[...] My mental state lately is such that I am doing everything in my power to distract myself from my own thoughts. I have turned into a person who can’t stand quiet. This is new. But, I am feeling vulnerable, paranoid, suspicious and exceptionally weepy. So to combat this, I’ve been constantly listening to music with lyrics that require my attention, reading my favorite books and watching all manner of TV. Speaking of which, I saw the strangest show on BBC America called Britain’s Worst Teeth. It was one of those things that I knew would haunt me later, yet I couldn’t look away. (Note to self: buy dental floss) Anyway, I was browsing around my own blog, (I find myself very entertaining! ) and I came across the 100 ideas list. I figured this would be a more worthy distraction than watching people with rotting teeth avoid going to the dentist. So here it is. #58 List your ten most important things (not including people or animals) In no particular order… 1. My camera. I’m not choosing which camera. That depends on the day/subject/application. But a camera, for sure. 2. My photo albums. Memories of everyone I love. 3. My wedding ring. Kelly surprised me with it about a month after we eloped. He picked it out without my input and I love it because it reminds me of that time in our lives. 4. My iPod. There is a playlist for every mood I have. It’s my life’s soundtrack. 5. My yard. Peace, beauty, escape. 6. My scriptures. Hope, answers, understanding. 7. My Wustof knife. Joy in cooking. (really.) 8. My computer. Photoshop, iMovie, blogging, iTunes, e-mail. 9. That antique baby dish I bought in New Hampshire. I don’t know why I love it so much, but I do. 10. My red trench coat. It has magical powers. [...]
