my adventures in minutia

A day in the life.

Today my parents took all three boys to the circus. They take them whenever it comes to town. Kelly didn’t have a wedding so we had the whole afternoon with just us two.
We go on dates from time to time, but usually in the evening. It was odd to experience daylight hours with no kids. And, when I say odd, I mean awesome.
We went shopping at the Gateway. Why is it so much more fun to go shopping there than other places? I love the outdoor shopping mall. Even in the rain.
We browsed in a bookstore, we shopped for jackets, and pants and anything else that we wanted. Without kids.
We went to the Apple Store, because what is a trip to Gateway without the Apple Store? As usual, we found a whole world of items that we don’t need, yet somehow cannot live without.
I talked Kelly into having dinner with me at the DoDo Restaurant. He spent most of dinner commenting on the male to female ratio in the restaurant. Apparently, it’s a pretty popular spot among the ladies. I told him not to feel uncomfortable, because I was sponsoring him in. But, every time someone walked in the door, he would give me the male percentage in the group. The ratio was something like one dude for every ten women.
Anyway.
I wanted to go there because the very minute I thought of their mushroom, spinach and feta quiche, I knew I could not eat anywhere else. It causes my eyes to roll in the back of my head every time I take a bite.
It did not disappoint.
During dinner I came to the conclusion that women love the DoDo so much because of their dessert selection.
It is unsurpassed.
And I did partake.
When we got home, the boys told us all about what they did and saw at the circus. Beck loved it. He clapped, and bobbed his head to the music, and loved seeing the animals. It sounded like he enjoyed it more than anyone.
Because it is in the grandparent’s job description to spoil, of course there was a trip to the gift shop. I think Josh and Tate liked that part best. Souvenirs are pretty hard to beat in their book.
Josh chose a sword. I could have called that one. We have swords from everywhere we have ever been. Beck chose (or it was chosen for him) a little light-up toy that spins. He stares at it, and it hypnotizes him. But, that is not the interesting part. The interesting part is the toy Tate chose.
tiger purse
Now, to be fair, he is calling it a “baby tiger with a cage”. But, I cannot help making this comparison:
pooch bag
Boys will be boys divas.

We tried to talk him into saying it was a tiger in a cave, but he didn’t like that idea. Poor Tate! He loves the tiger.

Nothing says manhood like a tiger. (purse? what purse?)

There’s a perfectly good explanation for the “ratio” on Saturday. It was WOMEN’S Conference!!! This is a day when Mormon women venture out to have some shopping and food along with the “spiritual” outing. I actually ended up going to The DoDo for dinner that same night! The desserts are truly divine. (I had two–it was my birthday!) If only I had known about the quiche!!!

The Gateway date sounded heavenly. Do your parents rent out?
