Awkward!

My first two boys are fairly shy. I have talked about this before, but today I want to talk about number 3.
He isn’t shy.
Quite the opposite, actually.
He’ll talk to anyone that will listen.
An elderly neighbor was in our home recently, and Beck asked him why his legs move so slow. Good thing his ears don’t work very well either.
He hollers out the window when we’re at stop signs to people too. “Hey! What are you doing?” or, “Look! I got chicken nuggets!”
Once, in a store, I was unloading my groceries onto the conveyor belt and as he sat in the grocery cart, he was trying to strike up a conversation with the man in line behind us. The guy had no interest in chatting so he just ignored him. Beck turned to me and as loud as can be, said, “Mom, that guy is grumpy.”
I know kids are known to do this kind of thing, but as I said before, my other two boys are so inhibited around other people, I haven’t had to deal with it much.
So, the other day, we were at a drive thru window, and Beck had his window down on the same side of the car as the drivers seat. When the McDonalds employee came to the window, Beck said, “Hey! Are you a boy or a girl?”
I was literally speechless. I am ill-equipped to handle such things.
Help a sistah out.

lol ohmigosh. i would have DIED! did you laugh? did he/she laugh? more importantly, so glad you’re writing it down. he’s going to love it later (or his wife will). oh, that’s hilarious!

Oooh!! What a laugh!
Sorry, no advice here either. My eldest is pretty shy, and although my youngest is a bit more confident, he’s still a little wary around strangers and doesn’t really talk or ask questions until he’s spoken to first.

When I was a nanny in Washington the postman came to the door one day and the three year old girl I was watching, out of no where, looked at the postman and asked, “Do you have a penis?” Talk about awkward. What do you do? I think it’s great that Beck is so social. And that guy in the line at the grocery store…shame on him. Good for Beck for calling him grumpy. I’m not sure there is anything that can be done…no cure. You just gotta let them be themselves and offer a little coaching when necessary.

Well, what I want to know is…was it a fair question? And…did he get a response?

way to go Beck! I have often wondered the same thing, just never dared to ask.

Was it a fair question? Nothing you can do about that. Gentry has made numerous remarks about people’s weight…it’s soo mortifying!

Is it the McDonalds by 2600? If so, Brad said he totally knows who he is talking about and it was a valid question. :)

YES! That’s the McDonald’s and yes, it was a totally valid question.
BUT STILL!

I love it. You’ll probably never meet these people again and you’ll have a great story to tell Beck’s wife someday. Besides most people have a child like that in their lives, they get it.

My daughter and I were in line at a hair store once and, louder than I would have liked, mentioned that the girl in front of us was not modest. Now, I’m glad she recognizes what is and isn’t modest, but I’d rather she didn’t mention it out loud.

he he he. The whole family got a kick out of this one! Let it ride, he gets it from his mom you know :) Just watch out when he lets the Sansom family vocab out.
