my adventures in minutia

It’s like you were there.

I think it went ok today. I ran out of time, and was unable to go through all of the info, but it was all on a handout, so hopefully, people will read it on their own. I was amazed at how fast the time went by!
I thought I would post it here in case anyone is interested.

I began by projecting this picture…

ocean

On a trip to San Fransisco with a friend, it was unseasonably warm for January, so we decided to rent a couple of bikes, and ride among other places, across the Golden Gate Bridge.
I was mostly concentrating on not crashing into other cyclists, but I noticed a girl standing on the bridge, palms together, fingers pointed heavenward, eyes closed, face tilted to the sun. She was praying aloud. I couldn’t hear what she said, but I wondered what prompted her to get off her bike and offer up a prayer.
I looked to see the scene that inspired her so much and saw what’s in that picture.

This moment really stood out to me for several reasons. One was, that I was going to ride right past this scene and pay it no attention. I appreciated that another person was prompted by it to offer a prayer. I wondered what her prayer was about.
As I look at this picture, I see the vastness of the ocean. The color of the water, the way the ocean fades into the sky seeming to go on forever. I see how tiny and insignificant that sail boat is in comparison to it’s surroundings. I wondered if the girl was praying because she felt like the boat…small, insignificant and lost… maybe seeking guidance.
Or, she could have been offering a prayer of gratitude. Standing on this amazing feat of a bridge, overlooking such a breath taking view, feeling the sun on her face and smelling the air as it rose off the water.

Whatever it was, she stopped and took notice.

We have been blessed with such an abundance of beauty all around us. In every season, everywhere we look, there is something worthy of, if not a photograph, then at least of our attention.

And that’s what this slide show is about.

Thanks for sharing..I was hoping you would. We talked out this same idea in Relief Society. The teacher asked how do we know Heavenly Father loves us? I responded that he knows exactly the things that inspire me and bring me joy and created on earth for me to enjoy ie: music, flowers, smell of rain, daffodils peeking out of the earth after months of slumber. He knew I would need things to enjoy on life’s difficult journey…that’s how I know He loves me.

Kelly, you inspire me. I wish I could follow you around everywhere and just listen to what goes on in your head when you’re shooting. I wish I had enough money and time to do a serious mentoring gig with you. Amazing slideshow and awesome tips!

thank you for reminding me to stop and take a deep breath. Take a moment, and look at life, our surroundings and the beautiful and simple things that bless us each day. I LOVED the pictures and the music was perfect. I want to replay it over and over again. Miss you, but so glad that I can catch your aurora here. Thank you. You truly have so much to share and bless our lives with your talents.

One of the many things that I love about you is that you notice beauty in things that most people don’t. Sometimes it even takes you off guard and you stop talking mid sentence. The picture off of the bridge is amazing. You described the scene and the moment perfectly. I have watched your slide show 4 times, I only cried 3 times though. I hope you know how much you have touched my life by capturing these amazing moments. My wedding, my kids, my babies, my memories. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for being my Yang.

As always I loved the photos. My brother once said that the way to tell if someone is really good at something is if they are willing to share there secrets without feeling threatened that you will suddenly be better at it than them. You are definitely are good! You are such a great teacher of everything, but you can REALLY feel your passion for photography! I miss being around you taking photos, you always make it so fun.

So, you took my engagment pics and our wedding pics close to 8 years ago, and we have been thinking that we need family pics done which took me to gallery’s website and then to your wonderful blog. I am so glad to see that you are still doing such wonderful and beautiful work! I still absolutely adore the pics you took for us that captured all the emotions of the day!
